Tangles Salon Studio is located at 304 Main Street in the heart of downtown Racine. Tangles is a full-service hair salon that provides services such as: haircuts, styling, hair restoration, skin care, and even eyelash extensions.

Janna Coca the owner and a salon stylist is “in [the] business to make people beautiful”. Despite the pandemic Tangles is thriving and almost “nothing has changed since Covid”.

Coca states “we still do all of our services, just wear masks”. Safety is of the utmost importance for Coca and she emphasized that for Tangles, the “main concern right now is making sure that our clients do feel safe. We all wear masks obviously, we sanitize our chairs after every use, we do everything possible to make sure that everyone will be safe and everything is sanitized in the salon at all times”.

Coca opened the salon in 2010 and just celebrated 11 years of business. Before that Coca has worked at other salons and in total has been in the industry of “doing hair for 25 years”.

Coca is overjoyed “to be doing something for 25 years and still loving it” even “ after all the ups and downs” she still wants to come to work everyday because she loves her staff and clients. “It all comes back to the clients. We love our job because of the people sitting in our chair. We love making people feel good about themselves and making them beautiful. Especially right now when everyone is so down.” When you are a customer at Tangles, Coca says that she wants you to leave the salon and “feel the best that you’ve felt in awhile”.

Tangles Clientele is very diverse and has services available for men, women, and children. Most of this clientele has returned after Covid and “80% came back right away”. However Coca expects more to come once everything is back to normal.

Clients are important to Coca and at Tangles she says “we pamper our clients”. It’s important to her that they have “a unique relationship“. Her clients go way back and a lot of them “have been coming to [her] for 20 years”. This mission has been even more prominent during Covid and Coca says “we want them to forget about Covid and everything else bad going on in the world while they’re in our salon”.

The salon was unfortunately closed for six weeks last March and April. However Coca did not let that stop her from opening an online retail store selling products that the shop offers and delivering them to her clients’ doors. Although, once they were able to reopen they were “slammed” and had the “highest month [of sales] in years” as clients began routinely setting up appointments once again.

Coca is proud of the fact that the salon stays up to date on the latest trends and services as well as education for all stylists. As a business owner she encourages those interested in starting a small business to “be educated” and “try and have a mentor”. There may be times where “it’s not easy” and you think “I have no idea what I’m doing” but everything is a learning process.

Coca says that she “can’t wait to get back” to normal. She has many plans that were postponed due to the pandemic and says excitedly “in the future as soon as we’re allowed to we will be definitely having more gatherings”. She is looking forward to once more getting involved in the community and for the salon to “get back to being ourselves and doing fun things”.

If you want to support a small business that cares about their clients or “just get away from the outside world for a couple hours and look and feel amazing when [you] leave” then Tangles is the hair salon for you. They are open Monday through Saturday and hours can vary. To schedule an appointment they can be reached at 262–456–2750.
